Traditional Persian Appetizers – Quick & Easy !

Below are a list of traditional Persian appetizers. Let us know what you think!

Fava Beans

  1. Bring water to a simmer in a small pot or pan
  2. Add fava beans (in pods) and salt
  3. Let simmer for about 1 hour or until very tender
  4. Drain and serve


Traditional Beets

  1. Bring water to a simmer in a small pot or pan
  2. Add unpeeled beets (if beets are small leave them whole; if they are large cut them into quarters)
  3. Add sugar
  4. Let simmer for 1 – 1.5 hours
  5. Check often for tenderness
  6. When ready slice off the top and bottom of the beets and serve in smaller pieces or slices
  7. Optional: you can use the boiled water (now red) as a syrup and drizzle it above the beets, but be careful, beet juice will stain

Cucumber/Onion Dip (similar to Tzatziki sauce)


  • 1 small onion
  • 3 large cucumbers
  • 32 oz. container of yogurt
  • 16 oz. of sour cream
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper
  • ¼ cup dried mint (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon dill (optional and alternative to mint)


  1. Dice a small onion and cucumbers
  2. Add yogurt and sour cream in a large mixing bowl
  3. Mix in all the ingredients
  4. For maximum life keep refrigerated or cool
